As a treatment, we offer myopia management. Myopia management is treatment based on research that aims to slow down the progression of nearsightedness in children. At Lumino Vision, we are proud to provide myopia management for one inclusive price. See our price list for more information.
Some Background
Studies show global rates of myopia have doubled in the past 20 years. By the year 2050 more than half of the global population will be nearsighted. Myopia has both genetic and environmental causes. Some environmental causes include increased screen time and near work (activities done at short working distances).
Dr. Wood is certified in the specialty of myopia management. A myopia management visit includes a full eye exam, retinal photography, and measurements of the overall length of the eye (axial length). Depending on the treatment plan, there are between 2-5 follow-up appointments throughout the year. These visits are included in one price.
These are some of the signs of myopia to be aware of in your child:
- Squinting when reading
- Sitting very close to the TV or computer
- Holding books or devices very close to their eyes
- Having to sit near the front of the class to see the board
- Reduced interest in physical activities that require distance vision
If your child is experiencing any of these signs, call us for an appointment.
